Art Statement
Often combining weavings and handmade paper,
two of the oldest forms of artwork, Joyce
Tayer explores symbols and abstract ideas
that emerge from her travels and
experiences. Sometimes, the paper and
weavings are shaped into multi-dimensional
collages. Use of various surface design
techniques including photo transfer,
stamping, monoprinting and painting are
utilized to express socio-political ideas.
Ms. Tayer actively exhibits with
fiber/Dimensions in the San Francisco Bay
Area. She has been a featured artist in at
the Tiburon Library, Tiburon, CA, Handworks
Gallery, Carmel, California and Mind’s Eye
Crafts, Scottsdale, Arizona. She has
received various awards and been invited
into curated group shows.
After a career in teacher education, Ms.
Tayer has studied weaving and papermaking
with renowned fiber artists Kay Sekimachi,
Lillian Elliot, Emily DuBois and Don
Farnsworth.
