Annie Styron Leonard

Artist’s Statement
My art is informed by the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
I often use lightweight fibers to convey a sense of the transitory,
ephemeral nature of existence. At the heart of my work is a desire
to engage the viewer, to create a fresh sense of the interconnectedness
of all life.

I use materials that are integral to my work. With cast paper, wood,
thread, wire, flax and cement I express the qualities I see in the natural
environment: transparency and solidity, vulnerability and strength.
I'm attracted to natural materials that can be molded and layered,
drawing the viewer into the hidden dimensions of nature and mind.
