Artist's Statement

I worked in clay from 1975 to 1995, making hand-built functional objects at first, then moving on to sculptural forms. I made woven pots and large sculptural vessels from coils of clay. In the late 1980's, I discovered fiber construction through Carole Beadle's classes at CCAC and the College of Marin where I began to incorporate fiber into my pieces. By the mid 1990's, arthritis stopped my clay work, but my fascination with fiber was in full swing. I used, for the first time, some clay pieces as bases, but now consider myself a fiber sculptor. While working with round reed, bamboo, palm fiber, willow, waxed thread and handmade paper, I look forward to exploring the use of other fibers.

I am a long-time member of Artisans Gallery; an active member of the Baulines Crafts Guild, Sign and Insight, and fiber/Dimensions; and am an emeritus member of the Association of Clay and Glass Artists.
