Artist's Statement:
Sausalito artist Juline Beier has been working in fiber for about twenty years but it wasn't until she attended classes at College of Marin that she turned her interest to fiber sculpture.
Her studio has always been in her Sausalito home where she receives critiques and support not only from her husband but her dog and cats.
Her most recent work, which has received critical recognition, is comprised primarily of machine-stitched thread which she then layers or alters by adding other materials such as fabric, paper, plastic, and wire.
She finds inspiration from diverse sources that range from popular culture to politics to functional folk art to shapes that seem to
appear out of nowhere. Layers of shadow, texture and materials hopefully invite the viewer to look deeper on different levels.
